Which Spaces Can Be Improved?

From your landscape to the basement, everything can be upgraded if you choose the right time, allocate your budget, and periodically make changes to the main things in your house.

Some common areas are the lawn, doorway, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom.  All these spaces consist of things that require changes, painting, resetting, polishing, oiling, cleaning, etc. Investing in little fixtures, accents, paints, tools, and equipment to upgrade your home will prevent you from spending a fortune later. Here are some areas that you can improve.

Transform Your Landscape

A well-maintained lawn signifies good upkeep and a healthy soil area for growth. The sign of flourishing nature at the very entrance enhances the curb appeal and increases property value, attracting better buyers in the future. You can make several upgrades over time without draining your bank with these improvement ideas.

  1. Fertilization and Gardening

You can transform your garden with some simple fertilization and gardening techniques. Creating your own mulch, and adding in some perennial plants can add to the presentation of your lawn.

    • Mulch & Gavel -Affordable options like wood chips, bark, shredded leaves, etc. can be used for mulch. You can also use recycled materials like newspaper or cardboard as a base layer for your garden beds before adding mulch. To create a distinct pathway, or hold in the planters use gavel or crushed stones, which require minimal maintenance.
    • Plants -To make the yard look lush and green, plant low-maintenance perennials and native shrubbery like daylilies, hostas, or lavender, that thrive in local conditions. Start planting seeds or plugs as they are cheaper and will grow into beautiful mature plants over time.
    • Edging Garden Beds – You can alwaysadd some plastic or rubber edging, as well, for a defined garden bed look. This could also be a good DIY project where you can repurpose old bricks, wooden landscape timber, concrete pavers, or stones, to layer your garden so that it can last longer.
    • Revive Sparse Areas - Fill in patchy areas by reseeding your lawn with grass seed. Always go for a drought-resistant variety of seed or grass which will save you water and maintenance costs.
    • Install a Simple Irrigation System - If watering your lawn is a challenge, consider installing a basic drip or soaker hose system. These options are more affordable than traditional sprinkler systems and can help conserve water.
    1. Redesign Your Curb & Patio

You will often have leftover containers, empty paint buckets, or cans from things used around the house. You can refurbish these and convert them to planters or containers, improving how your yard, porch, or patio appears.

      • Repurposed Planters- You can clean and paint unused wooden crates, metal buckets, or even old tires and repurpose them into unique planters. Any farmers’ market will give you access to some nice woven hanging baskets. Fill them with your favorite flowering plants or creepers and hang them in your patio area. Vertical gardens, pallets, or ladder shelves allow you to grow plants upward, making them ideal for limited spaces.
      • Upgrade Outdoor Lighting - Good outdoor lighting, can transform the exteriors, especially at night. Invest in some good, affordable, and energy-efficient solar-powered pathway lights or spotlights. String lights are also a cheaper option, and often best suited for outdoor gatherings. If you need more security and functionality, install motion-sensor lights near entrances, driveways, or side yards. They are relatively inexpensive and can deter intruders while providing convenience.
      • Recreate Your Patio or Seating Area – Either go for a gravel patio for that rustic charm to your yard or bricks for a more polished look. If you want a focal point in your garden then build a fire pit using inexpensive materials like concrete blocks or stones. Repurpose and paint some old pallets to create outdoor furniture like benches, tables, or garden beds. Throw in some colorful cushions and create a cozy atmosphere.

      Interesting Bedroom Upgrade Ideas

A personal sanctuary, important for resting, the bedroom is one of the most used areas of your house, yet it is also the most overlooked when it comes to refurbishing. Here are some cheap upgrades that can transform your sleeping area into a better quality and stylish space.

      1. Repainting & Lighting

The best way to upgrade a bedroom is to repaint and introduce new light fixtures, which can change theentire vibe of the space and make it feel more inviting.

        • Redo Your Wall - Depending on your aestheticyou can go for soft, neutral light grays, blues, or whites, as these also attract potential buyers. Painting a focal area in a contrasting color also keeps the cost low. Of course, the lowest yet most effective option is using the peel-and-stick wallpaper for an accent wall. For more layers add wall mounts, accents, or even frames.
        • Upgrade the Lighting - Lighting dramatically alters the look and feel of a bedroom. Place some budget-friendly table lamps or floor lamps, near nightstands or reading chairs. Swap out older fixtures with thrifted modern, affordable alternatives, that are often on sale at your local home improvement stores.
        1. Upgrade Bed, Windows & Textiles

The bed is central to the room and requires occasional care. If you have a permanent bed on a galvanized steel stand then you need to check the condition of the metal and the wood.

          • Refurbish Frames & Headboards – Check for wood ants and polish your wooden beds if needed. If you lack a headboard you can build one with reclaimed wood, fabric, or even paint.
          • Window Repairs –Check for any wear and tear or even termites, on your window frames, especially if they are made of wood. Paint them, or polish them occasionally. You can also go for inexpensive Roman shades or bamboo blinds, that add texture and style and save up on constantly, replacing or dry cleaning your curtains. If you do go for curtain you can get some brass curtain rods that last longer and looks as bright as new every time you polish them.

          1. Refurbish Furniture

Maintaining furniture, especially those that are embedded into your walls is crucial for better value.

Storage ottomans often double up as a seating area can be a nice addition. Storage Cabinet is essential
            • Refurbish Accents & Mirrors – A sleek framed large mirror embedded onto your wardrobe or placed on the wall, can provide the illusion of a larger bedroom and reflect more light. Replace outdated or worn-out drawer pulls and knobs on dressers, and nightstands, with durable brass, or chrome ones. Door handles should be regularly polished or replaced as well.

Having a mirror cabinet is always better since you also have space for storing your meds and grooming supplies.

Deep clean stainless-steel sinks and use a gentle abrasive cleaner for porcelain ones to restore them to their original shine
